Exciting times ahead for Bath FoodCycle! Jan Newsletter (#7)

Hello and Happy New Year FoodCyclers!

I hope everyone had a fantastic Christmas and you haven’t set yourself impossible resolutions! How about a suggestion – spend a few hours a month volunteering with FoodCycle! Make new friends, learn some skills and contribute towards reducing food waste!

Cooking sessions in 2013

We are now going to be cooking every Wednesday at St Mary’s Church on Julian Road. We start cooking at about 4.30pm and aim to be cleared up around 9.30. There are a few slots each week which start at 6pm for those 9-5ers out there!

We have all ranges of skills and experience among our volunteers and it is a great way to boost skills and learn about cooking for larger numbers.

The rota is held on http://www.foodcycle.org.uk , head over to the website, use the link at the top of the page to log in and find the ‘Volunteer’ section. Put your name down for the session you would like to join us for and it’s easy as that! If you haven’t signed up on the website yet, see the bottom of this newsletter for a ‘how to’ guide!

Hub Leader Opportunities

Meet some of our lovely Hub Leader Team by way of a cheesy picture; Maxine, Alice, Alexa, Pheobe, Sarah, Phil and Seb.

We have an exciting opportunity for someone to join our hub leader team! The Volunteer Coordinator role requires a weekly requirement of between 8 – 10hrs and is very flexible. We are looking for volunteers who are willing to make a commitment of a year (or more!). Initially working closely with the Volunteer Manager, the right candidate can learn the ropes and then get creative to support Bath FoodCycle and increase our volunteer base.

To learn more about the role, go to https://bathfoodcycle.wordpress.com/2013/01/14/new-vacancy-volunteer-coordinator/ . If you are interested in the role send us a short email detailing your experience and why you would make a great addition to the team to bathfoodcycle@gmail.com

Can you drive? Do you have your own car?

If so, Bath FoodCycle wants to hear from you! As we grow, so too does our need for transportation We are looking for volunteers to join our Driving Team to help facilitate transporting food from Sainsbury’s to the kitchen at St Mary’s Church. This is a perfect opportunity for someone who wants to support the work FoodCycle does but doesn’t have a lot of time to commit each week.

Interesting side note: we are exploring the possibility of lowering our carbon footprint with a team of cyclists… if you are a passionate two wheeler get in touch!

The main pick up takes place between 9 and 11 on a Wednesday morning and we will reimburse petrol costs. From time to time we may require drivers for other events so if you are interested in becoming part of our Driving Team but aren’t available on a Wednesday, drop us an email anyway!  Contact us via bathfoodcycle@gmail.com with the subject “Driving Team”.

Community Outreach Meeting

We will be having a special meeting at 7pm on Thursday 17th Jan at the Saracens Head to discuss our plans for community outreach in 2013. We will cover topics such as how to reach out to people who would benefit from our cooking sessions so come with your ideas and ready to brain storm!

Anyone is welcome to join us and if you would like to be involved with this aspect of FoodCycle but can’t make it to the meeting drop us an email and we’ll keep you in the loop with any plans we make!

2013 is going to be a fantastic year for Bath FoodCycle so get involved and help us grow!

A reminder for everyone who wants to be involved in cooking.. you need to sign up on the website and do the Health and Safety Quiz before you can cook with us. This is also where I’ll be sending the newsletters and rotas out from so it’s quite important you sign up even if you don’t want to attend a cooking session!

  • o To do this go to www.foodcycle.org.uk
  • o On the top of the page there will be a little headline saying volunteer, and do the test and fill in the details
  • o Once you have done this, you will be able to access all the bits and pieces on the foodcycle website, such as the rota!

As ever, if you would like to get more involved with Foodcycle or have an idea of event you think we should be involved in, drop me an email at bathfoodcycle@gmail.com

Looking forward to seeing you at a cooking session soon,

Alice & the FoodCycle Team
